The Machines are Taking Over

You know when you leave the house to go to work and you forget to reset the thermostat? And it's 95 degrees outside and your house leaks like a sieve so your AC is working overtime for no reason? Well, no more high energy bills! Now you can have a machine do all of your thinking for you. Or some of your thinking. OK, really just a very small tiny piece of your thinking.
With Nest you can retrofit your existing thermostat and have this little machine learn your habits. You begin by setting and changing it when you normally would. Nest remembers and learns and will start setting itself. If your habits change, it continues to learn.
You can even use an app on your phone or computer to control it if you are away from the house. It will also track energy usage and show you when you are conserving.
All this in a little sleek circle that you just twist.
Of course when the machines take over, this thing is going to sweat you out of house and home.

Wood Rings

Staying away from concrete this week, we're going more to the warm, feminine curves of wood. Oh wait, I did something similar a couple weeks ago. Oh well.
Above is "Twisted Lights" by Erwin Zweirs. The handmade lamp starts with the top piece that is the base. Strips of bent plywood are applied around the perimeter creating shapes they couldn't have predicted. Each is an unique piece of art but adding the functionality of the lamp enhances the beauty of the form.
Unfortunately each lamp comes with it's own witch ghost (see photo). Sooo... there's that downside.
X out of the intro page of the website and click on Products to see other things. Clay table - totally weird and a little gross.

MTH Woodworks is a Canadian duo that uses salvaged wood and resin to create tables that give the users a connection to nature. They salvage the wood themselves and the Western Red Cedar could even be 600 years old! They then apply an organic resin top in such a way that exposes the shape and beauty of the wood base.
Above shows their Bloom Collection and there are other collections on the website.
